Real Tech Reviews

-Real reviews, real people-

Space Force: So Is It Star Trek’s Logo Or The Air Force’s? Does it matter? Spoiler, YES It Matters.

When the Space Force officially released it’s logo, I laughed. It obviously looked liked the Star Trek Starfleet logo. I then got pissed. I then did some research which just pissed me off more.

Alibis, n. pl. al·i·bis:

I love Star Trek. I’ve seen every episode except for a couple of the original series, I’ll admit. I’ll soon get around to binge-watching it like I did every other Star Trek series.

I love how each episode -until recently- started with a challenging problem and by the end of each show, our heroes engineered the shit out of ridiculous problems and gallantly prevailed. I said “until recently” because their new shows have taken a cinematic approach that is essentially one long continuous story. I’m not saying I don’t like the new shows, it’s just that they are different.

Did Space Force steal the logo from Star Trek?

Steal? No. Reappropriate, yes. It is true Space Force and even Star Trek Starfleet logos borrow from the Air Force Space Command which was indeed around before Star Trek, but let me ask you:

Who knew that shit? Seriously, raise your hand if you knew that there was even an Air Force Space Command, let alone a logo that looks strikingly similar to the Star Trek Starfleet logo.

I respect those that did raise their hand, but even they must admit that Star Trek stole it fair and square with no take-backsies.

Star Trek could have very well taken that logo from the Air Force, but what they did with it is EXCEPTIONAL. I’m not trying to take away from any contributions by the Air Force Space Command, however I’d like to point out that the symbol in question is NO DOUBT best known as as the Starfleet symbol.

Agreed?

Why do I care? For the obvious reason that Star Trek is about exploration and even though there is no question that there are war-time scenes in about every episode that I can think of, they are all defensive in nature. Star Trek, and those that watch it know very well that creating a Space “FORCE” is very much against the Star Trek ethos, if there ever was one. Militarizing the Galaxy is not a good look and it’s not the best sign for humanity to send troops into space when we can’t even fix our shit here, on Earth.

Many people, including myself believe that yes, Star Trek is just a show (and movies, bleh), but it’s the best representation of an actual “workable” future where instead of money being used to determine a persons worth, it’s their contributions to science that make them rock stars and remembered throughout the Galaxy.

The most advanced technologies ever created and the culmination of human knowledge will be used to put guns in space.

And while I actually love guns, shooting et al, the thought of dolphins with laser beans flying around in space sounds cute but it pisses me off.

END: Rant.
