Review: Duluth Dog Bed With Bolster

Short story:

Buy it.

Long story:

We needed a dog bed for Leo that he couldn’t destroy. He tore up everything and we’ve wasted quite a bit of money over the years.

While browsing Duluth’s store for clothes, I noticed they offered a dog bed made with their fire hose material. Anyone who knows Duluth knows that their fire hose material is virtually indestructible. I took the chance knowing that this bed is EEEEEX-PEN-SIVE! $160 for a dog bed is a lot of money for anything, let alone a dog bed.

I decided to give it a try.

Leo LOVES this thing. He tried to bite it at first but has never gotten through the material. I can tell that he gets hot on it at times and sometimes prefers to sleep on the floor, but a dual coated dog like him, I don’t blame him.

Only the sides and bottom of the bed is made of the tough stuff. The material on top is made of sherpa fleece and in a year and half of owning it, there are no concern-able signs of damage. Leo is a 100 pound Lab and I don’t expect there would be problems for heavier or larger dogs. Leo looks quite small on this thing and a Great Dane -I suspect- would fit just fine.

My only gripe about it is the difficulty to reassemble it when you wash it.

Care:

We normally wash it about twice a month. Is it the easiest thing to wash? No, it is not. It’s quite easy to take the cover off but not so much to put it back together. My wife and I normally tag-team it which helps.

There are three pillows made of chopped pieces of memory foam within each. The pillows can get a bit lumpy, but they designed it in a manner that tries to keep the material inside from bunching up or making flat spots.

Conclusion:

Buy it! Your pet will love it.

Duluth briefly stopped making this version and I was actually quite sad. I was looking to buy another one so he’d have one to sleep on in the living room as well as in his bedroom. Yes, Leo is so spoiled that he has his own room..

Since Duluth offers three version as of this writing, I’d recommend the one with the bolsters as Leo uses them all the time to prop his head up.

If you are looking for a durable alternative, Carhartt makes great clothing and their material is very tough. I give the win to Duluth regarding durability, however the Carhartt version is much cheaper. I don’t buy in to the Carhartt vs Duluth argument. They are both great companies! Just like Star Wars vs Star Trek, the universe is big enough for them both!!
